Daron gets up on his soapbox...
How baby friendly is our church? Have you ever asked yourself that question?
Come on be honest...
Have you ever internally cast judgement on a young mother because her baby is crying in the sanctuary? Have you cringed because somehow it has upset your warped sense of reverence?
Have you ever frowned or stared or clicked your tongue because the baby is fussing and unsettled?
Have you ever asked a mum to leave the church and be banished to the cry room so that you can get on with your idea of "real" worship?
If so then you may be just as guilty as the disciples who turned the mothers and children away. Jesus rebuked the disciples and said "Let the children come to me and do not hinder them because the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Real worship is not found in polished, choreographed, adult orientated masterpieces presented by a chosen few.
Real worship is Intergenerational, raw, genuine, authentic, messy and real.
Real worship and the Kingdom, whom Jesus spoke about, is found when grandparents, parents, singles, youth, children and screaming babies all assemble before the Lord together and participate!
If I don't hear a baby crying then I know that the church is dying... I would rather preach over a screaming baby then not have them in the church at all. (I am deaf anyway :)) When I hear a baby screaming in church I smile and I turn my heart towards the mother and child and heavenward because I know the kingdom is here!
I preach on in power and joyfulness because here is a church that places children at the centre just like Jesus did!
Is your church baby ready, Kingdom ready? That is the question!
(Daron gets off his soapbox and goes and offers any support necessary to a mother with a screaming baby)
