LET THE CHILDREN COME TO ME
26 Jun, 2014
So often we train, equip and celebrate evangelism in adult terms. We often see reaching an adult as of more significance than reaching children. We have erroneously turned our message into an adults only message and have even had the audacity to say that you cannot get baptised until you understand this adult message.
I have over the years watched too many times as the pastor/evangelist has made an altar call and yes the children respond with up raised hands. The pastor does not acknowledge these decisions but suddenly utters a "praise the Lord" when an adult raises their hands. I weep as I see the children respond time and time again and our reply is you are too young, wait until you are older….
JESUS SAID LET THE CHILDREN COME TO ME AND DO NOT HINDER THEM FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN BELONGS TO SUCH AS THESE.
Children are more likely to make a decision to follow Jesus before they reach their teenage years their chances of coming to Jesus after this is relatively slim yet we throw all of our budget dollars and resources at reaching the slim pickings of reaching adults. Please don't get me wrong, we need to reach every tongue, kindred, people and nations but when half of all those in the harvest field are children then some very hard stewardship questions needs to be asked of our leaders.
It is time to arise for our time has come to reach, equip, teach and evangelise with and to children otherwise we are falling well short of the mark.
It is time to start making an investment where it really counts (with those before the age of 14 rather than after).
It is time to stop hindering children from getting to Jesus.
It is time to recognise a child's decision for what it is!
It is time to include the children in our churches and worship rather than just to place them into "holding tanks" with entertainment and pizza until some future day… (The future never comes, our children know when they are not wanted and go some place else!)
It is time to recognise that children can contribute to the Kingdom of God now rather than somewhere and sometime in the future!
IT'S TIME TO STOP SAYING "GOODBYE" TO OUR CHILDREN AS THEY SLOWLY LEAVE OUR PEWS AND RATHER SAY "HELLO GLAD YOU ARE HERE, COME AND WORSHIP WITH US!"
(Daron gets off his soap box and mumbling wanders on into the crowded street.)
