There is no limit to the promises of God; He is the ultimate Promise Keeper. Every promise in the Word of God furnishes us with subject matter for powerful prayer. Like Caleb who clung to God’s promises for forty years before entering the Promised Land (Joshua 14), and like Jacob who wrestled with God, clinging to His promises saying, “I will not let You go, unless You bless me” (Genesis 32), we too should tarry at God’s promises until God meets us there. This is the essence of powerful prayer. In an upper room, the early church believed with all their hearts that the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit would come as Jesus promised, and it did. God has promised that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse us from all our unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). God has promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Matthew 28:20). God has promised He will come again (John 14:1-3). His promises have not expired, for He is the Eternal God. His promises cannot fail, for He is faithful.
Before Jesus comes again, God has promised to pour out His Spirit with latter rain power upon His people, that they might be empowered to carry the Gospel to the world, finishing the work that early church began. Will God keep this promise also? He will. The time has come for us to claim by faith, the promises of God together. If we will study God’s promises, correctly understand them, and rightly apply them by faith, they will revolutionise our lives, our homes and our churches.
